I don’t remember how I learned about dragon fruit, but I first tried it while visiting Taiwan about 10 years ago. In Chinese, the fruit is called 火龍果, literally meaning Fire Dragon Fruit. It’s hard to explain its taste because it’s very unique. I would say it’s between an apple and a peach, but you really have to try it yourself.
Dragon fruit is usually available in the summer, so I like to make a nice cool smoothie to enjoy in a hot summer day. If you happen to come across one, here’s a recipe that I really like:
- 1/2 dragon fruit, peeled and cubed
- 1 banana
- 10-15 cherries, pitted
- 1 Tbsp chia seed (optional)
To make the smoothie, put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Use a frozen banana or add ice if you want it cold.
